tLab Technologies presented a new vision for file security at the Cyber Steppe 2026 conference in Astana

Astana, September 11, 2026. tLab Technologies took part in the Cyber Steppe 2026 conference, held on September 10-11 at the Alem.ai International Center for Artificial Intelligence in Astana. The event, organized by MSSP Global with support from the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, served as the launch platform for the national Cybersecurity Month and brought together representatives of government bodies, business, the banking sector, IT companies, and information security experts.

On the first day of the conference, focused on the public and corporate sectors, tLab Technologies CEO Konstantin Kim delivered a keynote titled "The State as the Main Attack Vector. Why Technology Is Powerless Without a New Layer of File Security and AI Protection."

In his speech, Konstantin Kim emphasized that modern APT campaigns target people, not infrastructure: "Even an attack on a corporation is not an attack on a building or its network - it is, again, an attack on a person." According to him, preparation for an attack begins with collecting personal data, building a digital profile of the victim, and subsequent psychological manipulation.

Kim presented tLab's new vision: no longer just a sandbox, but a layered file security platform covering mail, storage, browsers, information systems, and workstations. Using KEGOC, the operator of Kazakhstan's power grid, as an example, he showed how tLab protects critical infrastructure at the level of every single file.

It is worth noting separately that the KEGOC project became the first case in Kazakhstan of comprehensive security delivered from a single point. For the first time in the country, protection was built not as disconnected tools for each channel, but as an integrated system: mail, network storage, information systems, electronic document management, browsers, and workstations are all under unified management. This approach provides a complete picture of an organization's file flows, allows threat indicators to be shared between all components, and enables decisions based on unified context rather than fragmented data from different systems. This represents a fundamentally new level of protection maturity for Kazakhstan's public and quasi-public sector.

tLab also took part in the conference's business program in the panel discussion "MSS Economics: The Cost of a Subscription vs. the Cost of Downtime", which covered the economics of shifting from CAPEX to OPEX in information security, the real cost of running an in-house SOC, incident cost as part of the calculation, and the risks of outsourcing versus on-premise deployment.

tLab Technologies Founder and R&D Director Arnur Tokhtabayev ran a workshop titled "Anatomy of an APT Attack: From File to Precise Detection." In one hour, participants walked through an analyst's workflow: they broke down a well-known APT campaign from reconnaissance to data exfiltration, examined a malicious sample using tLab Anti-APT, and built a contextual YARA rule for precise detection, using an Excel file with a macro as the example.

"The future of public-sector cybersecurity belongs to local, scientifically grounded AI solutions that protect citizens' data without letting it leave the perimeter. tLab is the new standard for file security in Kazakhstan," Konstantin Kim concluded.
